Champions Quarry clarification

Last week's front page headline "Last chance for Champions Quarry" was misleading in that there are other options available to Mr Champion if his application currently before the Planning Assessment Commission is unsuccessful. Mr Champion may apply to have it assessed as a "state significant development" under the State Environmental Planning Policy, or he may submit a new development application to Lismore City Council.

The article also said the application was to increase operating hours from 7am to 5.30pm on weekdays and 7.30am to 3pm on Saturdays when, in fact, the current operating hours are 7am to 6pm on weekdays and 7.30am to 5pm on Saturdays.

We also quoted Councillor Simon Clough as saying "...there would be more noise and more dust on a very significant scale" whereas Mr Champion says state regulations do not allow for any increase in noise or dust.

Mr Champion has written a full response to the article which can be seen in our 'Letters to the editor' on page 32.
