Champion Wigan set for challenge Down Under

THE last time the World Club Challenge was played Down Under, Wigan beat the Brisbane Broncos 20-14.

Twenty years later the Super League champions will have the chance to repeat the dose after confirmation the match against NRL premiers, the Sydney Roosters, will be played at Allianz Stadium on February 22.

While Wigan will be able to call on two of its new recruits, former NRL players Matt Bowen and Eddy Pettybourne, it will be without Sam Tomkins (Warriors), Pat Richards (Wests Tigers) and Lee Mossop (Parramatta) from the team that beat Warrington 30-16 to claim this year's title.

Meanwhile, South Sydney yesterday announced it had signed 25-year-old Raiders forward Joe Picker (pictured) for the 2014 season.

Wooden-spooners Parramatta have signed Manly grand final forward David Gower on a one-year deal.
