WHILE Vampire Weekend were providing the surf vibe on the Orange Stage, surfing royalty were hanging out backstage at the Gold Coast Big Day Out.
Mark 'Occy' Occhilupo, Stephanie Gilmore and Joel Parkinson were spotted mingling with other celebrities ahead of the launch of the Rock N Ride charity event for Headspace.
The motorcycle ride from the Gold Coast to Adelaide included Phil Jamieson from Grinspoon, Chris Joannou from Silverchair, Jake Stone from Bluejuice, Big Day Out CEO Adam Zammit and NRL player Nathan Hindmarsh.
American indie darlings Vampire Weekend started their show about 20 minutes late, but punters didn't seem to mind.
The band treated fans to their hits including Cousins, A-Punk and Oxford Comma.
They played a short set to make way for New York's Yeah Yeah Yeahs, who took to the Blue Stage at 6pm.
Still to play tonight are headliners The Killers and The Red Hot Chili Peppers.
