CASINO will become home to NSW's first coal seam gas community liaison officer from next month, Resources Minister Chris Hartcher has announced.

Mr Hartcher's anouncement following a meeting today with Clarence MP Chris Gulaptis, Lismore MP Thomas George, Richmond Valley mayor Ernie Bennett and Richmond Valley Council general manager John Walker.

"Last year the NSW Government announced it would be establishing an on-the-ground presence in regional communities across the State to ensure ready access to factual information about the coal seam gas industry," Mr Hartcher said in a statement.

"Richmond Valley Council recognises the many benefits that can be derived from the coal seam gas industry, and views the development of local coal seam gas reserves as vital to supporting economic growth and local employment.

"I was happy to meet with Mayor Bennett and Mr Walker to hear first-hand the council's position statement on coal seam gas, and I congratulate them both for their proactive approach in shaping the future direction of their Council area."

Mr Hartcher said the community liaison officer would "meet with members of the community and organisations" seeking information on coal seam gas.

There was no word on who would fill the post, but it was expected the officer would be in place from early March.
