A show for green thumbs

If you love flowers and plants, go along to the Casino Annual Flower Show & Fair this weekend.

Hosted by the Casino & District Garden Club, the 2010 event more stalls, more presentations and more space for the audience.

The morning schedule begins with local florist Ruth Morris demonstrating modern floral arranging. Lively Carol Kerkin, who lives with her husband amongst acres of beautifully terraced gardens in the Gold Coast hinterland, is next on the agenda with a presentation on ‘Cottage Gardens’.

If you’ve ever wanted to master pruning your roses, don’t miss the demonstration by Pete’s Plants nursery of Casino, or if you’re not too confident about repotting your orchids, Lionel Frame has a simple, tried and true method to show you.

There’s also a the quilt display, slide show, and you can check out the imaginative entries in this year’s fun novelty competition titled ’Recycle your old things into new things’. There’s also a photography and art display and you can marvel at entries in the dahlia, rose, gerbera, herb, orchid, pot plant and floral art competition.

There’s also plenty of refreshments available throughout the day plus stalls of plants, trash and treasure, and sweets and caked.
