Careful on the road Baza

WIRES were recently called to assist with a Pacific Baza fledgling that was rescued from the middle of the road in North Casino.

Pacific Bazas are Australia's only crested hawk and are easily recognisable by their small crest and distinctive banded chest.

It was taken to Casino Central Vet Clinic and luckily the young bird had not been injured and must have landed on the road during one of its first flights.

After the rain cleared the next day, the young Baza was taken back to where it was found to see if it could be reunited with its family. Immediately, both parents arrived calling excitedly while the young bird returned their calls. It was placed in a suitable tree away from the road, while the parents watched on anxiously.

Hopefully next time it will be a bit more careful of roads.
