Camembert do Cohen

For years ARIA-award winning gypsy jazz outfit Monsieur Camembert have been covering Leonard Cohen’s classic Dance Me to the End of Love. In fact it is their most requested song with several fans suggesting they do a whole night of Leonard’s poetic ramblings on love and life.

So they have. Along with guest vocalists Katie Noonan, Abby Dobson and Ngaiire, Monsieur Camembert presents Famous Blue Cheese, a tribute to Leonard Cohen.

Producer, bandleader and vocalist, Yaron Hallis said you should leave aside any preconceived notions about Cohen being another word for gloomy.

“This tribute show is spirited, musically assured, eclectic and downright fun... he just writes one unbelievable, catchy melody after another... With Cohen, absolutely every word counts, and for the material to really work, there has to be vulnerability, sensuality and complete emotional truth,” he said.

Famous Blue Cheese will be on at the Lismore City Hall on May 27.

Tickets are available from Norpa for $30/$24/$14 and there are group discounts available as well.
