Drunk driver jailed after motorcyclist loses leg in crash

A 64-YEAR-OLD woman has been jailed for causing a traffic crash that resulted in a motorcyclist losing her leg and two fingers.

Calen woman Denise Rosemary Gilmore was more than three and a half times the legal alcohol limit when her vehicle crossed into the wrong lane of the Bruce Hwy.

The crash occurred just after 9.30pm on June 12 last year.

A 49-year-old woman was significantly injured by in the crash.

Gilmore, 64, today pleaded guilty in the District Court in Mackay to dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm while adversely affected by alcohol and high-range drink-driving.

She initially told police the motorcyclist had driven into her lane and caused the crash.

There was a schooner sized cup half filled with wine in the centre console of her Hyundai Getz on the night of the crash, the court was told.

Gilmore was jailed for three and a half years to be suspended after she serves 14 months.
