Cahill’s header seals win for Ange’s Socceroos

THE Socceroos have made a perfect start under new coach Ange Postecoglou, beating Costa Rica 1-0 at Sydney's Allianz Stadium last night.

After the teams were deadlocked at nil-all for much of the game, veteran Tim Cahill scored the winner in the 69th minute when he headed the ball into the back of the net.

Postecoglou had sprung a surprise by starting Matthew Leckie up front and leaving Cahill on the bench.

Leckie, 22, looked lively early as the Socceroos started brightly in the first half.

Robbie Kruse caused a few problems for the visitors' defence down the right and he was just offside on two occasions as the home side pressed.

For all their dominance, Postecoglou's men failed to create too many clear-cut chances in the first half until Kruse broke down the right again and crossed to the far post with three minutes left to the break.
