Burton, Griffiths nab top spots

AFTER a rocky preparation for the Aussie Eventing team, riders Chris Burton and Sam Griffiths have come out strong, taking the top two places after the first 16 riders.

Burton was the first Aussie out on the main arena, scoring 46.1 penalty points to take an early lead, only to be bumped by his best friend Griffiths who came out to score 45.6.

Griffiths' performance received a wild reception from the crowds. He only receiving the call up to the team just over 48 hours ago when Shane Rose and Megan Jones were forced to withdraw.

It was Burton who predicted Griffiths to come out fighting in the Dressage.

"While we've been nervously preparing, he (Sam) has been relaxing at home. I wouldn't be surprised if he comes out to take the lead in the Dressage," Burton said- his prediction was spot on.

Germany's Dirk Schrade has just taken over the Aussies on 39.80 penalty points.

Andrew Hoy is set to ride at 3.40pm today. Clayton and Lucinda Fredericks will ride tomorrow on day two of the dressage phase for the Eventing competition at Greenwich Park.
