THE new Bunnings Warehouse in West Ipswich is a construction site now, but it's on schedule to open early next year.
Work on the $46 million development is in full swing, with concrete slabs for the car park now in place.
Bunnings chief operating officer Peter Davis said the development was currently on schedule.
"There have been no delays on site and the warehouse is expected to be completed and ready for customers in early 2014," he said.
"ADCO Constructions has been appointed to complete the project."
Mr Davis said the foundations of the building were complete and the construction of elevated concrete ramps and slabs was in progress.
"Bunnings Warehouse West Ipswich will have a total store size of more than 15,000 square metres, ensuring the widest range of products for local customers," he said.
"The development will include a main warehouse, indoor timber trades sales area, building materials and landscape supplies yard and outdoor nursery, as well as an indoor playground and café."
Mr Davis said Bunnings was committed to sustainability and the West Ipswich warehouse would implement a number of energy and water saving design features.
"Bunnings Warehouse West Ipswich will offer a wide range of leading Australian brands and products along with specialised trade supplies to meet the community's needs," he said.
"Local customers will enjoy the convenience of the widest range of home improvement and outdoor living products at the lowest prices."
Work began on the previously empty Brisbane St site in April, nearly two years after the first plans for the store were announced.
The warehouse could be one of three in the Ipswich region.
Earthworks involve removing 50,000 cubic metres of soil with 10,000 as fill on the lower part of the site and the rest taken away.
It will house kitchen, laundry and bathroom displays, as well as a nursery and an outdoor leisure display.
- Bunnings is owned by Wesfarmers which also owns Coles supermarkets.
- The store first started in 1886 after Arthur and Robert Bunning arrived in WA.
- The Bunnings brand expanded around Western Australia in 1952.
- There are 42 Bunnings stores in Queensland, including one at Booval.
