Bundaberg Rum fans celebrate 125 years

BUNDABERG Rum fans tipped their glasses to 125 years of the tasty drop at a weekend celebration.

Bundaberg Rum senior brand manager Duncan Littler said Saturday's celebration was held to mark 125 years of the well-known rum and plenty of people turned out to toast the local creation.

"We had about 1000 people there which was fantastic," Mr Littler said.

"We had people come from Alice Springs, people who drove up from Tasmania, people from Victoria, New South Wales and some that flew from Perth.

"It was an amazing turnout."

Threatening storm clouds didn't rain on Bundaberg Rum's parade which included live music and an appearance by Darren Lockyer.

"The crowd just erupted when he came out.

"Darren is a great guy and it was great to have him here.

"Bundy Rum is a big part of Queensland but so is Darren."

The distilling company is already planning for its next big milestone of 150 years and attendees were given a glimpse of their plans for a top-shelf anniversary rum and a time capsule which will be unsealed in November 2038.

"We've had really positive feedback and everyone had a great day," Mr Littler said.

"It's a big occasion for us and we want to thank people for making the time and coming to celebrate with us."
