Buddy hell, star forwards out with suspension

THE Sydney Swans will go into Thursday night's match against Port Adelaide at the SCG without star forwards Lance Franklin and Kurt Tippett.

The players were offered one-match bans by the Match Review Panel after being reported in Friday night's loss to Richmond, coach John Longmire saying the pair would plead guilty.

Franklin was given a one-game suspension for his head-high bump on Tigers midfielder Shane Edwards, while Tippett was given two games for striking defender Dylan Grimes. That sanction can be reduced to one with an early plea due to Tippett's good record.

Brisbane Lions ruckman Stefan Martin also fell foul of the MRP, offered a two-game suspension, if he accepts an early plea, for elbowing Adelaide defender Luke Brown in the throat in Saturday's game at the Gabba.

Gold Coast tagger Andrew Raines was fined $1000 for striking Carlton's Patrick Cripps.
