Brumbies take control at top of Australian conference

YOUNG fullback Tom Banks and substitute Andrew Muirhead both scored try doubles as the Brumbies strengthened their hold at the top of the Super Rugby Australian conference with a 39-15 bonus-point win over the Jaguares in Buenos Aires.

The 23-year-old Banks touched down twice in four minutes in the first half to set up the win which moved the ACT team nine points clear of the NSW Waratahs with three games remaining.

The Brumbies scored six tries to two, with skipper Sam Carter opening the visitors' account with a try after Nicolas Sanchez had put the home team in front with a penalty.

The home team regained the lead when hard-running lock Tomas Lavanini crashed over the line.

But Banks' brace and a penalty from five-eighth Wharenui Hawera on the stroke of half-time gave the visitors a 10-point buffer.

Henry Speight's try stretched the lead before Muirhead's quickfire double pushed the visitors clear before a late consolation five-pointer to Guido Petti Pagadizaval.
