Lismore brothers top field in Perth Spartan Obstacle Race

BROTHERS Glen and Tony Curtis took up most of the podium after claiming first and second place in the Spartan Obstacle Race - Sprint Race in Perth at the weekend.

Glen finished 18 seconds ahead of older brother Tony in the elite division of the obstacle challenge race.

The Lismore pair are no strangers to the sport with Tony competing in world championship events in America last year.

"Glen is over the moon - he just got me at the end," Tony said. "It was about 8.6km of racing with a big hill at the end.

"It was touch and go for a while there but we were neck-and-neck all race.

"We spent a bit of time over there for this race and the whole event had about 1750 people all up."

The next Spartan event for the brothers is in Brisbane next month.

A podium finish there will see them earn an all expenses-paid trip to the world championships in California later this year.

"We've already qualified to go over off our own bat," Tony said. "But we're definitely aiming to get there with all the expenses paid.

"Everyone wants a crack at this next race and they've capped it already with 200 in the elite field.

"We do have plenty of competition but the races are run well by the Spartan guys and everyone gets along."
