Broncos pluck Roosters with last-gasp try in thriller

BRISBANE halfback Ben Hunt revived memories of Allan Langer magic with a thrilling golden-point try to snatch a 22-18 win over the Sydney Roosters in a sensational NRL clash at Suncorp Stadium last night.

The young halfback gambled on running the ball on the last tackle with 20 seconds of the first extra-time period remaining.

When he sliced through between defenders he had two teammates in support but opted to throw a dummy and cut back inside Roosters fullback Tuivasa-Sheck.

Five weeks after being hammered by 30 points by the defending premiers South Sydney, Brisbane won its fifth game straight in style.

The contest was on a knife-edge with the Roosters heading into the sheds 12-10 up after Boyd Cordner beat Brisbane's defence to a well-weighted Mitchell Pearce grubber kick 10 minutes before the break.

In the other game the Sharks put the bite on Newcastle defensively to run out comfortable winners 22-6.

After leading the competition for the first four rounds Newcastle has now lost it last two games.
