Broncos irresistible in big victory over Tigers

A HAT-TRICK to winger Lachlan Maranta helped Brisbane consolidate its position at the top of the NRL table with a 42-16 win against cellar dwellers Wests Tigers.

Maranta's first was his best, the four-pointer coming after some stunning lead-up work by halfback Ben Hunt.

Taking the ball on his own 20m line, Hunt bust through two tacklers before being brought down but not held by a third inside the Tigers half.

He then got an offload to teammate Jack Reed, the ball eventually finding its way to Maranta who crossed out wide.

Reed also scored a magical Broncos try, courtesy of a sublime no-look flick pass by five-eighth Anthony Milford.

Earlier in the day, the Roosters put aside the distraction of winger Shaun Kenny-Dowall's arrest on domestic violence allegations to whitewash the Warriors 24-0 at Allianz Stadium.

The 28-year-old was stood down by the club after being charged with a string of offences including six counts of common assault against his former partner Jessica Peris, the daughter of Labor senator Nova Peris.

Forwards Jared Waerea-Hargreaves, Dylan Napa, Sam Moa and Sio Siua Taukeiaho overpowered their Warriors opposite numbers, allowing plenty of space for the backline, notably Blake Ferguson and Roger Tuivasa-Sheck, to run amok. After Aidan Guerra opened the scoring, Ferguson extended the lead four minutes later when he proved too strong for four defenders, before Tuivasa-Sheck leapt high over the man who he will replace at the Warriors next season, Sam Tompkins, to score his team's third try.

Any chance the visitors had of a second-half comeback was snuffed out just four minutes into the second stanza when James Maloney converted his own try to make it 24-0.
