Brisbane Heat set to change luck in BBL match against Sydney
IT'S been a week of giving for most as we leave Christmas behind for another year, so I thought it was a good time to hand out a few awards.
Christmas didn't start off too well for the Brisbane Heat fraternity as we got dusted in another nailbiting KFC T20 Big Bash League clash against the Renegades.
We get the Black Cat Award - I'm still searching for a moggie under the team bus as our unfortunate run of bad luck continues.
The Heat games haven't been without controversy.
I spoke last week about our Duckworth-Lewis loss to the Scorchers, while this week's game against the Renegades featured coach Darren Lehmann getting a 'please explain' from Cricket Australia for some comments he made about an opposition player after the game.
I'd like to give Boof a Bravery Award for that effort, although he might have been more prudent to go for the Marcel Marceau Award instead.
Amusement Award of the week goes once again to Joe Burns - and he gets two of them.
The first, causing yet another run out, a good old fashioned BBQ of Luke Pomersbach
The second, also in-game, was part of our batting plan to Muttiah Muralitharan.
'If you can't pick him, sweep him' was the pre-innings thought.
The proactive Burns was down on one knee very first ball trying to paddle Murali around the corner, inciting plenty of giggles in the dugout.
The Heat squad had a few days off after returning from Melbourne, with just a light fielding session on Boxing Day, and we will no doubt be fresh for tonight against the Sydney Thunder in a must win game.
Personally, I managed to keep my bowling workloads up over the break with an intense game of backyard cricket on Christmas Day.
My brother gets the Donald Duck Award after the 23 bouncers in a row that certainly took its toll on both of us!
With our backs to the wall coming into the last four games, hopefully we will be giving ourselves The Big Comeback Award in three weeks' time.
I believe we play our best cricket when we are on the verge of being down and out, but either way the Heat will go out with a bang.
