Bree-lliant for Souths as teen aims for two hockey trophies
BREE Bunyan was hesitant when she first started playing senior hockey, unsure if she could keep up to the level demanded of her.
Today, a bit over a year since she began in seniors, she will play two grand finals and isn't nervous at all.
Bree will pull the shin pads on for both an A2 finals and the top grade of A1, and sees no reason why she can't walk away with two premierships.
The 14-year-old admitted Meteors will start favourites in the A1 level, but her young team has nothing to lose in challenging its rivals.
"I am not nervous, I am very excited and confident," she said.
Bree's Souths A2 team will be the first of her two matches, playing against minor premier Sparks at 4.10pm.
She will then be the last match of the day in A1s.
Win or lose the main match, Bree knows it could set up good years for Souths.
There are seven players in Souths who are teenagers, who are only going to get better with more experience.
It is also extra motivation for Bree to keep the match close, if not get over the line.
"I am expecting a close enough result, I don't want to lose massively," she said.
"I will be walking home happy."
But Bree will be tired, because she is prepared to leave everything on the field in both matches, being the last of the year.
She has found the more she digs in and gets in the thick of the action, the better she is becoming.
"It gives me more skills and gives me a lot of confidence," she said.
