Bra Boy Jai back in court

INFAMOUS Bra Boy Jai Abberton had his day in court today appearing via video link from the Kempsey jail.

The 39-year-old was arrested in Bowraville last month after he failed to appear in Tweed Local Court charged with the assault of two police officers in Byron Bay in March.

The Maroubra local has attempted to have his conviction in absentia annulled on health grounds, but it was dismissed by a magistrate today and a fine of $533 for not appearing in court stands.

Abberton has also tried to have the charges of resisting arrest and two counts of assault occasioning bodily harm overturned under the Mental Health Act.

He will be sentenced in September in the Tweed Local Court.

Police allege Abberton was tasered three times in the Byron Bay Police Station after he was involved in a violent incident, where two police officers were assaulted.

Pleas to the charges have not been entered.
