Boomers seek NZ bash

IF THE Rolling Stones provided the soundtrack to your spirited youth and 'make love not war' was your ethos, then chances are you were part of the baby boomer generation that turned social convention on its head, when pioneering ideals of free love and flower power.

Now in their 50s and beyond, these silver fox ground-breakers are still seeking new adventures; never content to follow in the footsteps of others.

So when it comes to travelling it's no wonder that 73% of retirees want to travel overseas versus 40% that want to explore in Australia.

And remember people are retiring as young as 50 now.

If you are in this group looking for a unique experience you will welcome a new adventure holiday that will soon start in New Zealand.

Helloworld and AAT Kings have partnered to create a bespoke guided holiday, specifically designed for baby boomers.

The Silver Fox and Foxette's 10-day New Zealand guided holiday showcases the natural beauty of New Zealand combined with diverse experiences, culinary delights and social interaction.

Award-winning actor, Roy Billing, epitomises the carpe diem attitude of the baby boomer generation and stars in a social media video that showcases the new Kiwi adventure holiday.

The tongue-in-cheek video encourages older travellers to skip out on their grandkid's birthdays or their lawn bowls

final in favour of an exciting New Zealand escapade and, well, say sorry later.

As a native Kiwi who was born and raised in Auckland, Roy shares insider knowledge of his homeland as only a local can.

Now in his sixties he learnt first-hand how much fun you can have exploring New Zealand as he traced the footsteps of where the new tour will take its first guests.

"I am not sure what I loved more, the Shotover River jet boats or flying up to remote peaks in a helicopter to sip wine and take in the view," he said.

"The colours of the NZ landscape from the deep green dense tones to the light gold and lush lime greens are just spectacular. As is the food and those wonderful pinot noirs.

"It's a pristine haven of incredible beaches and rolling hills offering fresh local produce.

"A must try are the bluff oysters when in season, local fish like whitebait and Hapuku, fresh olives, aged New Zealand beef and what better way to wash it down than with a glass of sauvignon blanc from one of the islands high quality vineyards.

"Just heaven on middle-earth."

Kim Portrate, Helloworld CMO said her group understood the expectations of the baby boomer generation were totally different to all that had preceded them.

"It's why we have responded by creating exclusive travel experiences that satisfy their desire for a healthy, active lifestyle," she said.
