Blurring art and dance

Visual art, contemporary dance and multimedia projection will all come together at the Nextart gallery in Magellan Street with the launch of The Laboratory No. 1.

The project is a collaboration between Nikki Morgan-Smith, Joe Jurd and Kellie O’Dempsey who described it as “an experiment with movement and line.”

In the past few years Kellie has done live drawings with the Queensland Ballet Company and physical theatre group The Barbican Theatre, as well as at festivals and gallery spaces in Australia and Europe.

Joe is a contemporary dance artist working across a variety of forms including improvisation, capoeira and breakdance. Over the past three years he has been travelling through Europe Asia and North America pursuing the craft of movement and the idea of freedom in flight. Most recently he returned from Vienna where he was involved with the danceWEB scholarship program part of Impulstanz dance and bodywork festival.

Together they are going to mix it up next Wednesday November 25 from 5.30.
