Sweet Sugarcane on the coast

For the past five years Sugarcane Collins has been playing his acoustic guitar in juke joints in the Mississippi Delta and blues clubs in Buenos Aires (which is a long way from his home in North Queensland) as well as in Oz.

Andy ‘Sugarcane’ Collins performs his blues raw. And, like the original bluesmen, he spends a lot of time travelling.

Big tours of the USA and the east coast of Australia over the last three years, plus appearances at major events all around the country, show that this bloke is dedicated to his art. And his art is the blues.

You can see the fervour in his face, the light in his eyes and the blues in his veins. A powerful solo performer playing hard-driving acoustic guitar, he moves easily from down-home delta to ragtime to swing to Chicago shuffle. And he’s a storyteller. Thirty years’ worth of adventures on the road, three albums under his belt and a deep understanding of blues history make for great entertainment whenever the man performs.

Sugarcane Collins will sing the blues at the Ballina RSL Club this Saturday, February 13, from 7.30pm.
