Block denies Bruton win in milestone game

CJ BRUTON has been denied a fairytale finish in his 500th NBL game, with the New Zealand Breakers beaten 84-82 by the Tigers in Melbourne yesterday.

The 37-year-old has been the go-to man countless times with games on the line, but in his mile

stone match he was denied by a game-saving block from Tigers import Mustapha Farrakhan.

Only signed last month, Farrakhan finished with 20 points and six assists, missing just one shot in a near-perfect performance, receiving great support from Mark Worthington (21 points, 4 rebounds) who bounced back from his recent poor form. The Breakers led by as many as six in the final term, but even the efforts of Gary Wilkinson (20 points) and Tom Abercrombie (18 points) were not enough.

Round 9 results: Friday: Townsville 98 b Adelaide 94, Perth 95 b NZ Breakers 91; Saturday: Wollongong 73 b Sydney 69, Cairns 98 b Adelaide 78; Sunday: Melbourne 84 b NZ Breakers 82.
