Blakebrook bridge opened

The new Blakebrook Bridge on the Nimbin road was opened last Friday.

The bridge cost $2.1 million and was funded equally between the Lismore City Council and the NSW State Government under the Regional Roads Timber Bridge Replacement Program.

The new bridge, which comprises of a two lane, 9 metre wide pavement and a total length of 60 metres, is one of the longest bridges constructed by Council staff. The bridge has four 15 metre spans with total of 32 pre-cast concrete girders, founded on a total of 48 concrete piles. It is expected to have a life of 100 years.

“The construction of this bridge is a testament to the skill and workmanship of Council's hard-working bridge crew,” Mayor Jenny Dowell said.
