Birthday boy's world rocked as earthquake tremors hit

AN 11-year-old Sunshine Coast boy celebrating his birthday has told how he felt the walls of his bedroom and his bed shaking after tremors from an earthquake hit the region.

Sam Furler was laying in bed, playing a game on his iPad when the tremor hit at Palmwoods.

He initially thought the clothes dryer in the laundry next to his bedroom was going crazy.

"The bed started shaking,'' the youngster said.

"The wall started shaking.''

"I thought the dryer was going crazy.''

He went outside to investigate when other neighbours came rushing out, asking him whether he felt anything.

His mother, Julie, said Sam did not want to go back inside initially, thinking the walls of the home might collapse.

He had been given a day off to enjoy his birthday.

It's certainly one he won't forget in a hurry.

This mornings earth tremor recorded in Clayton's Nambour Head Office, turn the sound up, watch the plants/computers. Whole building was swaying, sure had us all wondering what was going on for a minute there.
