Billy Thorpe scholarship

TALENT scouts for the Billy Thorpe Scholarship are looking forward to discovering the "rockin' heart of Queensland" this year.

QMusic is pleased to announce applications for the fifth annual Billy Thorpe Scholarship opens next month.

The scholarship was established by the Queensland Government through Arts Queensland in 2007 to honour the late, great Australian musician Billy Thorpe who died in February of that year.

This scholarship is an opportunity for an emerging artist to establish a professional career, plus record an album with a local producer of their choice.

What's more, this year's $10,000 Arts Queensland scholarship will be opened up to emerging bands as well as solo artists for the first time.

"The guidelines for the annual Billy Thorpe Scholarship have been revised to include bands this year, in keeping with Billy's hard-rocking career," Lynn Thorpe said.

"We love this more inclusive framework and look forward to hearing the new batch of applications."

The winning applicant will be announced at the annual Queensland Music Awards on August 14 at the Old Museum Building, Brisbane.

Applicants can submit their application through from March 1.

Applications close on April 30.
