Big Ben has eyes on Thaiday in charity bout

HE was almost down for the count after copping one of the biggest hits of the Rugby League World Cup.

And Broncos skipper Sam Thaiday will be back in the firing line when he takes on the biggest man in Australasian football, 148kg Chiefs prop Ben Tameifuna, in this weekend's Fight For Life charity boxing program in Auckland.

Thaiday, who weighs in at 112kg, was poleaxed by a swinging arm from Rabbitohs and England enforcer Sam Burgess.

But it could be even worse for the back-rower with Tameifuna having "accidentally" broken the jaw of a sparring partner while training for the bout.

Big Ben, as he is known, admitted he didn't know much about Thaiday except the Aussie was unlikely to be daunted by the weight difference.

"No, not a lot except that he's an aggressive bugger and he'll be coming off a big high after the win over the Kiwis," Tameifuna said.

Asked if he'd been encouraged to exact revenge for New Zealand's loss in the World Cup final, Tameifuna said: "I have a few mates on the team and I've had a few helpful messages telling me what to do."

Thaiday's Kangaroo teammate Paul Gallen will take on All Blacks forward Liam Messam.
