HIS career trajectory has suddenly spiked - and now former Stingray Blake Enever finds himself is in the midst of a resurgent Reds and finals football.
The hulking second-rower, recently praised for his football smarts by Queensland coach Ewen McKenzie, is a chance to be part of the Reds' elimination final against the Sharks at Suncorp Stadium on Saturday night.
The Reds' hopes copped a body blow yesterday when talisman Quade Cooper was ruled out of the showdown after a marathon judicial hearing in Brisbane.
Cooper was suspended for one week when found guilty of making high contact with Waratahs fly-half Berrick Barnes in last Saturday's clash in Brisbane.
Enever still finds it hard to believe he is part of the defending champion's audacious bid for consecutive titles after stringing together six straight wins.
The 20-year-old made his Super Rugby debut for the third-placed Reds off the bench when they beat the Rebels 32-17 on June 29 and has been part of the squad ever since, serving as 23rd man for the wins over the Highlanders and NSW.
So swift has the Wurtulla resident's ascent been, he knows virtually nothing about the team he may face this weekend - but would like nothing better than to change that.
"I'm not quite sure on selection at the moment," he said.
"It just depends on what Ewen wants to go with on the bench. What players he's looking at.
"There's a few injury concerns that won't be cleared until Thursday or Friday, so I'm not sure."
Enever said the feeling within the Reds camp was one of relief now that they had beaten the odds and made the finals.
With that bridge crossed, he is confident the side can again go all the way, even without Cooper.
"There's so many good players involved with the team," he said.
"There's a lot of leadership … to drive the team in the right direction."
The former Australian under-20 representative's career has gone into overdrive since leaving the Stingrays at the end of last season and joining Brisbane club Easts.
