Better broadband for Ballina, Byron, Lismore, Ocean Shores
THE ultra-fast National Broadband Network may be fading into myth, but a looming Telstra upgrade means residents at Ballina, Lismore, Ocean Shores and Byron Bay should still see an improvement to their internet connections soon.
While not spelling out the sorts of speeds customers can expect, Telstra Countrywide North Coast general manager Sue Passmore said improved infrastructure would allow some residents to access digital TV through Telstra's T-Box and web-based office services such as EFTPOS, fax, and alarms.
"We want to make sure our customers have the best experience possible when using our network, and so we've invested in improved infrastructure into Lismore, Ballina, Ocean Shores and Byron," Ms Passmore said in a statement released by Telstra.
"We've listened to local residents who want more consistent access to higher internet speeds and the opportunity to use some of our premium products.
"The existing infrastructure in the local exchange was struggling to meet the demand in Lismore, Ballina, Ocean Shores and Byron for fast internet at certain times.
"We're very excited that this upgrade will allow many of our customers to have a more consistent speed experience when using their ADSL service, either at home or at work."
Despite the infrastructure improvements, connection speeds remained based on the distance of a customer from the nearest phone exchange.
Any Telstra customer wanting more information about their internet connection can phone 13 46 69 or visit the Lismore Telstra office at 23-25 Woodlark Street.
