BEVIN Mutch has spent many years tinkering with cars of different makes and models.

But the 1929 Model A Ford has always held a special place in his heart.

The 67-year-old Yandina resident owned one of the classics in 1975, but sent it on a ship to Germany after a marriage break-up forced him to sell it.

So when he saw a busted-up Model A body sitting in a garage in Chinchilla in 2001, he had to buy it. Luckily

second wife Yvonne is happy to be a garage widow.

Mr Mutch spent almost four years rebuilding the two-tone grey beast.

"Every bloke who owns one will tell you the same thing, they cost nothing to keep and you can leave it for six months, grab it and put a battery in it and off it goes," Mr Mutch said.

Mr and Mrs Mutch have spent nine years co-ordinating the Sunshine Coast Antique Car Club's rallies, but will take a back seat to enjoy the social side this year.

The club is one of the largest in the state and car enthusiasts will be in heaven as they come together for a sign-on day and car display on February 24.

Club president Lyall Exelby said they were celebrating 50 years this year so the members would be pulling out all the stops. The display is at Nambour Show Grounds from 9am to 1pm.
