Beating friend no cause for Errani to celebrate

ITALIAN Sara Errani moved through to the second round of the Sydney International after downing Roberta Vinci 6-4 6-2 yesterday.

But there was no celebration from the world No.7 after beating her countrywoman and doubles partner.

"The hard thing is not the play because we know each other very well, it is more playing against your best friend is very difficult," Errani (pictured) said.

"I don't know how to explain, it is not easy to play your best."

In other results, 18-year-old American Madison Keys upset seventh seed Simona Halep from Romania 6-1 6-4, and Croatian wildcard Ajla Tomljanovic produced another shock, ousting Slovakia's Daniela Hantuchova 6-4 7-5.

In men's qualifying, the final two Aussies looking for a place in the main draw, Jordan Thompson and John-Patrick Smith, were beaten by Czech Jiri Vesely and Russia's Alex Bogomolov Jr respectively.
