BARBARA McCulkin was an "honest" and "respectful" woman.

Mrs McCulkin's landlord Wallace Richardson also described his 34-year-old tenant as "dependable" in his statement to police.

Mr Richardson is dead but his statement was read out to a Brisbane Supreme Court jury a short while ago.

Vincent O'Dempsey is on trial for the murder of Mrs McCulkin and her daughters Vicki, 13, and Leanne, 11.

The McCulkins were last seen alive on the evening of January 16, 1974, at their Highgate Hill home.

Mr O'Dempsey has pleaded not guilty to three charges of murder and one of deprivation of liberty.

The 78-year-old Warwick resident was charged alongside Gary Reginald 'Shorty' Dubois, but their trials were separated.

Mr Richardson, in his statement, said he collected rent from Mrs McCulkin just three days before the family disappeared.

He said Mrs McCulkin did not give any indication she planned to move away from the address she had called home for three years.
