Bandits looking to trump Aces as finals approach

BASEBALL: It's crunch time for the Brisbane Bandits in their four-game away series against the Melbourne Aces, starting tonight.

The Bandits sit last on the ABL ladder with 14 wins - five adrift of third-placed Canberra Cavalry, with only the top three sides enjoying post-season action.

With eight games remaining for all six teams, the Aces, with 18 wins, will also be desperate for as many victories as possible.

They will be a tough proposition at home, particularly with third baseman Ryan Dale (pictured) in good form.

BRETT CROCKFORD

The 17-year-old averaged .750, .500 and .333 in the first three games of the four-match series against ladder leaders Perth Heat earlier this month.

The 192cm son of Australian baseball pioneer Phil Dale has also fired in the infield in recent weeks.

In other series, the Cavalry will host the Heat, and Sydney Blue Sox travel to Adelaide to take on the Bite.
