Ballina teen charged with bashing

A TEENAGER has been charged over an attack on a man at his North Coast home.

According to police, about 1.30am today, the 34-year-old man was woken by someone banging on the first floor balcony doors at his Greenhalgh Street, Ballina, home.

The man went to investigate and found a 17-year-old boy, who is known to the family, standing outside.

Concerned for the teenager's welfare, the man brought him inside the residence before asking him to leave via the front door.

The pair allegedly became involved in an altercation during which the man was knocked unconscious.

Police from Richmond Local Area Command and NSW Ambulance Paramedics responded to the incident.

The man was taken to the Gold Coast Hospital for treatment of a fractured skull and jaw.

His partner, a 33-year-old woman, and her three children, a 13-year-old boy, 15-year-old girl and 16-year-old girl, were uninjured in the incident.

As a result of inquiries, the 17-year-old boy was later arrested and taken to Ballina Police Station.

He was charged with recklessly causing grievous bodily harm and refused bail to appear in Parramatta Children's Court on Sunday 23 September 2012.
