Ballina man charged

A 38-year-old Ballina man has been charged with sexual assault after an alleged incident in Ballina earlier this week.

It is alleged that at about 12.10am on Tuesday, January 12, the 38-year-old man and an 18-year-old South Lismore woman drove to Shelley Beach at East Ballina where the man sexually assaulted the woman.

The man allegedly left the scene and the woman sought assistance at a nearby residence where police and ambulance were contacted.

At about 7.40am on Tuesday police attached to Richmond Local Area Command attended a work site at North Ballina where they arrested the 38-year-old man.

He was taken to Ballina Police Station where he was charged with sexual assault. He was granted strict conditional bail to appear at Ballina Local Court on Thursday, January 28.
