MAKE IT HAPPEN: Volvo's child seat concept could revolutionise and simplify kiddie travel

Behold the baby seat of the future

BABY and child seats can be the bane of parents' lives: they're bulky, fiddly and often so complicated to fit correctly they eat away at any remaining sanity new mums and dads have.

Volvo thinks it shouldn't be this hard, and on behalf of all parents everywhere, I'm with them.

The smartie pants Swedes have shown how serene family life can be by re-imagining how kids could travel safely in the future with its Excellence Child Seat Concept.

Using Volvo's recently revealed Excellence Lounge Console Concept in its new XC90 SUV - where space is freed up by removing a front passenger seat - the pampered child can ride in a rear-facing position beside the driver and have eye-to-eye contact with a rear passenger.

Loading the child in would be easier thanks to the baby seat swivelling on its luxurious base, while storage for nappies, bottles, wipes and the like is ample and all part of the capsule system.

The concept also provides a function to help small children safely lean back and sleep, and is based on Volvo's safety position that small children should travel rearward facing up to the age of 3 or 4 or even later.

There was no word on any solutions for screaming babies, fighting toddlers or being car sick on the plush leather, but we hope Volvo is working on it.

IT GETS BETTER: With kid removed, mum can enjoy business-class like travel with her favourite movie and not even have to communicate with dad.
