ALMOST 10 million people have tuned in to watch the past three Ashes Tests - and watch Australia reclaim the Ashes.
The figure represent 61% of the population in the metro markets and almost the same in regional markets, Nine said in a statement on Wednesday.
This year's Third Test is up 43.4% on the Third Test of last year and up 29.7% on the Third Test of the last Ashes in 2010.
The 2013/14 Ashes series already boasts four of the top ten sessions of all time for television audiences of Test Cricket in Australia, Nine said.
Nine is hoping the audience will be maintained despite the fact that Australia has already won.
"These record audience figures suggest there will be continuing intense interest in the Ashes battle, and particularly whether Australia can achieve a 5-0 whitewash in the series in the two great amphitheatres of cricket in Melbourne and Sydney,'' Nine said.
Breaking down the fifth and final day of the Third Test (Tuesday, December 17, 2013) - a peak audience of nearly 2 million people watched Australia play England at the WACA - finishing before the tea break.
Nine's coverage of Day 5 attracted a National (5 City Metro + Regional) peak audience of more than 1.941 million and an average audience of 1.706 million with Total People (5 City Metro + Regional) (** OzTam figures below).
The Ashes: Third Test Australia V England easily dominated its timeslot across all key demographics; People 25-54, 18-49, 16-39 and Total People.
Across the 5 City Metro the broadcast achieved a peak audience of 1.213 million and averaged 1.096 million viewers in the final session.
Cricket Australia Live - The Official App popularity continues to grow, recording more than 7.3 million visits.
The App is now on over 582,000 devices - allowing fans to view match stats and figures, watch video highlights, or stream the Channel Nine coverage live.
With more than 47,242 #Ashes tweets for the fifth day of play of the Third Test, #Ashes tweets dominated Australian Social Trends yesterday, peaking with 1,391 tweets per minute during session 2 of play.
More than 517, 292 #Ashes tweets have been tweeted so far throughout the series.
