Aussies battle for hip hop prize

Aussie Battlers is a hip hop youth event (for youth and by youth) held annually in Lismore on Australia Day (next Tuesday, January 26).

This celebration of youth culture brings the whole family together in a safe, friendly and drug-free environment. This is the event’s ninth year and it attracts hip hop crews from places as far away as Brissie and Coffs Harbour to battle it out on the dance floor. (This is the only sensible battle going on in the world.)

This year’s program includes hip hop dance competitions, MC battles, professional demos in dance, MCing, DJing and graffiti art.

All the hip hop action takes place at the Goonellabah Sports and Aquatic Centre (GSAC) from 12-5pm.

Special guests include Lamb (So You Think You Can Dance 09) and breakers from Australia’s number one crew, Skill@Will. Dhinawan Dreaming will present Indigenous dance. Prizes include stuff from the Bomb Clothing, the original 2010 Aussie Battlers T-shirt and heaps more.

Registrations for crew battles close this Friday, January 22. (Freestylers can sign up on the day.)

To register or for more info phone Mitch King at Youth Connections North Coast on 6622 3143. Or email mking@communityconnections.org.au.

There are also free dance workshops happening on Saturday, January 23, and Sunday, January 24, at GSAC from 4-6pm. Call Nadine on 6622 3143 to register.
