Aussie signs with NBA heavyweights
AUSTRALIAN representative Aron Baynes has officially joined the Boston Celtics.
The 30-year-old Detroit Pistons centre, who won an NBA championship with San Antonio in 2014, has joined the Celtics after becoming an unrestricted free agent.
Rio Olympian Baynes turned down a US6.5 million ($A8.6 million) player option he had with the Pistons to join last season's Eastern Conference finalists.
"I think being in the NBA, everyone always wants to play more," Baynes said.
Baynes, who averaged five points and more than four rebounds from 15.5 minutes a game in 2016-17, will play alongside Boston's new recruits superstar Gordon Hayward and No.3 draft pick Jayson Tatum.
"I think if you don't want to play more then you're not in the right spot, so I'm excited for the opportunity and hopefully I can go out there and own some minutes."
