Aussie Rogic strikes winner as Celtic claims treble

TOM Rogic has been lauded from all angles after he scored the winning goal as Celtic sealed an historic Scottish domestic treble with a 92nd-minute stunner against Aberdeen.

The Socceroo has labelled his goal the perfect finish to the perfect season, with the attacking midfielder coming off the bench to beat two defenders and slot the ball home from a tight angle on his weaker right foot.

"It's an amazing feeling to score the winner,” Rogic said after the game.

"It's hard to describe what it feels like to score a goal like that and then go and jump into the crowd.

"It's impossible to put it into words, but it's probably the best feeling you can have on the football pitch to score the winner in the last minute.”

He said: "It's not about me. It's about the whole squad. That's the way it's been all season.

"Everyone has to be ready. The manager is calm in the decisions he makes. I didn't expect to come on so quickly and it wasn't good to see KT (Kieran Tierney) go off.

"He's a massive part of what we have done and we didn't expect that. It maybe rocked us a bit.

"But in the second half we showed our quality and had a number of chances to put it to bed.”

Rogic, who scored the opening goal in Celtic's League Cup win over Aberdeen in November, has now been lauded as the best player in Scotland following his match winning substitute performance.

From heartbreak last season, when Rogic missed the penalty in the Scottish Cup semi-final against Rangers which was the game that saw Brendan Rodgers come in as manager, Rogic was singled out by teammate Kris Commons post game.

"I'm absolutely delighted for him,” Commons told Sky Sports.

"I know how heartbroken he was last season and to go from being the guy who missed the penalty, to flip it to this, is brilliant. He's been unbelievable.”

Aberdeen had hit the lead after nine minutes through Jonathan Hayes before Stuart Armstrong levelled two minutes later.

Then, as Kieran Tierney was forced off inside the first half hour, Rogic came off the bench to score a goal that will go down in Celtic history.

Celtic have now won the League Cup, Scottish Premier League and Scottish Cup in a season where they went undefeated in domestic competitions.

It was this time 50 years ago that Celtic became the first British club to win the European Cup and Brendan Rodgers became only the third manager to win a domestic treble, following in the footsteps of Jock Stein and Martin O'Neill.
