Aussie golf tees up final spot at British Open

HE MAY have started the final round of the Scottish with a share of the lead, but in the end a tie for fourth was all Andrew Dodt needed to qualify for the British Open.

The 31-year-old Brisbane golfer, ranked 193 in the world, secured the final spot at the British Open after sinking a four-foot putt for par.

"I'm over the moon," Dodt said.

"It's been a big goal of mine to play my first major and it's great news.

"I found myself a little bit mentally fatigued on the back nine.

"I had to dig as deep as I could down the stretch."

Dodt fell out contention on the back nine, carding a one-over par 73 to finish at eight-under.

Dodt, who finished alongside New Zealand's Ryan Fox, Anthony Wall, Padraig Harrington and Matt Kuchar, earned his place among the Royal Birkdale over Wall field because of his higher world ranking going into the tournament.
