Aussie diver misses out on championship medal

AUSTRALIA'S Melissa Wu has finished outside the medals at the diving world championships.

Wu, the 11th qualifier for the women's 10m platform finals in Hungary, finished fifth in the 12-person field.

Sitting in sixth after her second dive, Wu improved her position slightly with her next three dives, but was still 21 points behind the top three.

Malaysia's Jun Hoong Cheong took gold over Chinese favourites Yajie Si and Qian Ren, who placed second and third respectively.

The 10m platform was 25-year-old Wu's fourth event at the championships.

She placed fifth in the women's 10m synchro with Taneka Kovchenko, 12th in the mixed 10m team event with Australia's Matthew Carter and seventh in the mixed 10m synchro final with Domonic Bedggood.

In other diving news fellow Aussie James Connor has qualified in eighth position for the men's 3m springboard final.
