Aussie can't jump: Mills jokes about Leonard injury

AUSTRALIAN Patty Mills said he was not worried about getting injured in the same way as San Antonio teammate Kawhi Leonard as the Spurs face up to Golden State Warriors in the second game of the NBA Western Conference Final series.

Leonard injured his ankle in the first-game loss after he landed on Zaza Pachulia's foot as he went up for a three-point shot.

Coach Gregg Popovich was furious with what he described the unsportsmanlike play but Mills refused to talk about the play, deferring to his coach, but joked: "I can't jump really high anyway.

"I don't get off the ground very much."

The Spurs were leading by 23 points at the time, but with Leonard unable to play the Warriors came back to win a 113-111 thriller.

Popovich did not mince his words.

"Two step lead with your foot close-out is not appropriate," Popovich said.

"It's dangerous, it's unsportsmanlike."

Mills missed all six three-point attempts and scored just one of eight shots from the field.

Mills, who played 37 minutes in game one, says it will take an enormous team effort to dampen Curry's impact and beat the Warriors.

"It's tough and we all knew it," he said.

"We need to have a lot of battery packs in the back pocket to be able to chase him around but it's a team defensive job.

"Everyone needs to know where he is on the court at the one time as well as their other shooters and playmakers."
