Another knee injury clouds future for Idris

WESTS Tigers centre Jamal Idris will know next Tuesday if his NRL career is over.

The 26-year-old suffered a second ACL rupture at training last Saturday and faces another knee reconstruction.

Idris (pictured) has another appointment with his doctor next week and will know if he can continue his playing career.

He is definitely out for the rest of the year after injuring the same knee he hurt during his time at Penrith, which forced him out of the game for 18 months.

Tigers coach Ivan Cleary wasn't sure about the former NSW and Australian representative's future.

"That'll be up to Jamal,” Cleary said.

"You can't really talk about that at the moment. There's so much to digest. There's so much disappointment and we need to find out medically around his recovery.

"We'll know a bit more about that next Tuesday when he has his next appointment. We're giving him a bit of space at the moment.”

Idris, only five games into his return to rugby league, had signed a cut-price deal with the Tigers and was attempting to rebuild his career.

"It's a huge blow for anyone any time but when you do two in a row and he's had such a positive re-start for him this year,” Cleary said.

"Fate deals some really tough blows sometimes and this is one of them.”
