Amazing autumn orchids

According to the Lismore Orchid Society the orchid family is one of the three largest flowering plant families in the world with 25,000 to 35,000 naturally occurring species.

In Australia there is a remarkably rich and diverse group of orchid species growing in the wild and countless beautiful hybrids have been created by gifted orchid breeders.

You can see both hybrid and native orchids at the upcoming Lismore Orchid Society’s Annual Autumn Orchid Show next weekend at the Lismore Centro Shopping Centre.

The show is free and will be open on Thursday and Friday, April 15 and 16, during shopping hours and on Saturday, April 17, from 7am to 3pm.

Plant entries will be accepted on Wednesday, April 14, from 4 to 6.30pm. The major prizes will be awarded on Saturday at 2.30pm.

There will be an orchid raffle and also orchid plants for sale at reasonable prices. There will also be an orchid expert on hand to guide you on what to buy and how best to make it flourish. For more information, phone Ron on 6624 7422 or 0421 021 451.
