Alfa Romeo MiTo now priced from $22,500

BRAND power will be tested by the new Alfa Romeo MiTo range.

Starting from $22,500, the MiTo brings Alfa Romeo into the mainstream and will appeal to the fashion conscious who love designer looks but don't have the budget.

The MiTo, which gains its name as an abbreviation of the cities Milan (Milano) and Turin (Torino), has received some tweaks inside and out, but it's the realigned pricing that hauls the little Alfa into the fray.

This is the latest offering from within the Fiat Chrysler Australia umbrella to be given improved specification at vastly reduced prices. Compare this new MiTo to the one released a few years back, and it represents a saving of about $7000.

Headlining the Series 2 line-up is the entry-level offering powered by a 0.9-litre TwinAir turbocharged two-cylinder engine.

We have seen the TwinAir previously in Fiat products, namely the 500 and the Panda. In the MiTo it is partnered exclusively to a six-speed manual.

Those who want an automatic transmission have to opt for the larger 1.4-litre four-cylinder MultiAir engine. It also has a manual option, a five-speed.

Basic MiTos come with 15-inch alloys, 12.7cm touch-screen, Bluetooth phone and audio connectivity with steering wheel mounted controls, cruise, air con and leather wrapped steering wheel.

Progression models have 16-inch alloys, the 1.4-litre engine along with automatic wipers and lights.

Distinctive sits atop of the range with 17-inch alloys, dual zone air con, red stitching on the steering wheel, special cloth seats, and the option of leather trim and premium sound system.

All MiTos have the same safety specification with seven airbags, anti-lock brakes and stability control.
