Age of stupid rally

The local No Rally Group has nearly reached its first anniversary.

Concerned locals started this action group in response to the Special Events Legislation and the running of Repco Rally Australia in this region. (Through Tweed and Kyogle shires.)

Tweed Shire Greens councillor Katie Milne challenged the rally in court in a last-minute attempt to stop it from going ahead. Her challenge was dismissed.

Katie has been hit with legal costs of about $25,000. Another $8000 needs to be paid for an independent environmental impact study.

To raise money for these expenses there’ll be a fundraiser at Nimbin Town Hall on Friday, March 19.

A highlight of the evening is a screening of Age of Stupid, a full-length climate change awareness film from the UK starring Pete Postlewaite (pictured). It’s a reality check for sure. And there’ll be local short films about the rally. And an auction. And comedy.

Doors open at 6pm. Tickets are $10 and available at Perceptio and Nimbin Environment Centre.

There’ll be food and drinks for sale. (Good tucker by the Radical Faeries.) Great film; great chance to contribute.
