Adele tops young musician rich list

Adele Bang Showbiz

ADELE is the wealthiest young musician in Britain with an estimated fortune of £30 million (AUS$43.8 million), according to the Sunday Times Rich List.

Boy band One Direction have amassed almost as much as the singer from south London, racking up a combined £25 million (AUS$36.5 million) fortune in the past year.

However, the boys have an estimated individual worth of £5 million (AUS$7.3 million) each.

Adele's £30 million fortune follows a mixed year for the singer, who had Oscar-winning success with her Bond theme tune "Skyfall", but also took time off to recover from a throat operation and have her first baby.

Second to Adele in the under-30s musicians' rich list is Cheryl Cole, worth an estimated £14 million (AUS$20.4 million), followed by former X Factor winner Leona Lewis and singer-songwriter Katie Melua, who are both worth £12 million (AUS$17.5 million).

Florence Welch from Florence and the Machine came in fifth, with an estimated £9 million (AUS$13.1 million) fortune.

New entries to the list of young music millionaires include Emeli Sandé and Ed Sheeran, who are each worth £5 million (AUS$7.3 million).

Sir Paul McCartney topped the list of the wealthiest musicians in Britain along with his wife Nancy Shevell.

The couple have amassed an estimated fortune of £680 million (AUS$992.8 million) in the past year, up £15 million (AUS$21.9 million) from 2012.

The top five wealthiest musicians in Britain remain unchanged from the 2012 list, with McCartney followed by Andrew Lloyd-Webber, U2, Sir Elton John and David and Victoria Beckham.

The 25th Sunday Times Rich List will be published on 21 April.
