A MACKAY product could stand between the North Queensland Cowboys and another step along the way to the NRL grand final.

Manly halfback Daly Cherry-Evans would be looking to "do the job" on the Cowboys in Friday night's semi-final in Sydney, NQ co-captain Johnathan Thurston said.

The former Mackay junior won a premiership with Manly last year and has played for Australia, and Thurston said his halves partnership with Kieran Foran could be a game-breaker on Friday night.

"They're young but they're very experienced thanks to what they've done in the game," Thurston said. "Kieran has played for his country and so has Daly.

"They get a lot of momentum off the pack that they've got in front of them.

"They'll be looking to do a job on us."

The Cowboys flew to Sydney from Townsville on Thursday, as thousands of Mackay fans prepared to support them on Friday night.
